Lake Maraboon

In 1972 the Fairbairn Dam was built across the Nogoa River to form Lake Maraboon (the Aboriginal word for “where the black ducks fly”) While in the Central Highlands at Lake Maraboon, you also can hunt for another kind of local treasure – fish! Lake Maraboon has been stocked with Barramundi, Murray Cod and Golden Perch however the dam is most famous for its highly-sought after Redclaw crayfish, which is perfect on a real Aussie barbeque. In the late 1980’s, Murray Cod were stocked on a large scale at Lake Maraboon.

Cabin accommodation and a caravan park are available at the Lake Maraboon Holiday Village. Native wildlife such as wallabies and possums are found in the area of the Holiday Village, often coming into the camp ground at night to feed.
