Trade Information
Capricorn Tourism & Economic Development is one of 14 Regional Tourism Organisations (RTOs) in Queensland, responsible for promoting the Capricorn Region under the trading name Capricorn Holidays. Our Tourism footprint covers the larger part of Central Queensland from the Capricorn Coast and Keppel Bay Islands of the Southern Great Barrier Reef, through to unique culture and heritage of major centre Rockhampton and surrounding areas, and west to the outback experiences, spectacular national parks and the Southern Hemisphere’s largest sapphire fields at the Central Highlands, Carnarvon Gorge and Sapphire Gemfields.
Getting to and around the Capricorn Region is easy with a range of transport services.
The newly developed Rockhampton Airport is exceptionally well serviced, with multiple flights to and from Brisbane daily, direct flights from Townsville, Sydney and Melbourne and connections on to other ports around Australia and internationally.
Rail, coach and bus tours and transfers are available throughout the region with multiple services available in Rockhampton and Emerald. Major highways link the region with all parts of Queensland and the southern states. Care hire is available through local and national operators, and taxis are available in local destinations.
A range of accommodation from budget backpacker options, boutique B&Bs and eco retreats, moderately priced hotel and motels through to luxury 5-star resorts exists for visitors to the region.
