21 February 2019
Bronze By Night is an in-depth four-week course that will take you through the stages of developing your own sculpture in wax to taking it home in bronze.
During the first two workshops, you will carve and work on an original wax sculpture of your own design. Using carving tools, and with the guidance of artist educator and sculptor Brendon Tohill, you will turn chunks of wax into a handmade sculpture. Once you are happy with your design, you will learn about the mould-making process and how to turn your wax carving into a bronze sculpture.
This four-week course will culminate in an open air bronze pouring by the artist educator, followed by instruction on how to apply a patina coating to complete your work of art. It will run on two consecutive Tuesday evenings, followed by a break-week for the tutor to create moulds, followed by two consecutive Tuesday evenings for the bronze casting and patina painting.
This is an exciting and comprehensive workshop that includes all materials and instruction by an artist educator.

About the Tutor
Brendon Tohill is a Rockhampton sculptor. He has taught many carving and sculpting classes at Rockhampton Art Gallery and around the region.
Brendon is a bronze caster who also carves in wood, stone, marble and bone. He casts bronze using the lost wax process and a homemade foundry he has set up at home. Being able to cast his own pieces allows him to experiment with casting for his artwork.
Brendon also experiments with different media, using bronze, wood, steel and glass with a variety of other media to achieve the outcome and the final piece of art work.
